Is it really free to request early access?
+
Yes. Early access is by invitation only while we complete development, and we're offering it at no cost to a small group of beekeepers who want to help shape the app. We'll let you know when paid plans are introduced β and early access users will always get a better deal.
Do I need an Android phone?
+
Not to use the app β it works in any desktop browser and can be installed as a PWA on Android. You only need Android specifically for NFC tag scanning at the hive. iPhone NFC is restricted by Apple and we can't support it for this use case. All other features work on desktop. Harvest jar QR codes can be scanned by any phone including iPhone.
How is my data stored?
+
Your apiary data is stored in a secure cloud database (Google Firestore), tied to your Google account. It's also cached on your device for offline use. Photos are backed up to secure cloud storage. Your data is private β it is not shared with third parties and is only accessible to you and anyone you explicitly invite to your apiaries.
Can I import data from my existing spreadsheet or notebook?
+
Not automatically yet β data import from spreadsheets is on the development roadmap. For now, most beekeepers find it easiest to start fresh and build records from their next inspection forward. Your historical paper notes or spreadsheet can sit alongside the app while you build up a year of records in UBM.
What NFC tags do I need to buy?
+
Any NTAG213 or NTAG215 NFC sticker works. Search "NTAG213 NFC stickers" on Amazon β you'll find packs of 50β100 for a few pounds. White, round, self-adhesive, about 1β3p each. You don't need anything special or branded. The app also generates QR codes as an alternative to NFC for harvest jar traceability.
Will it work in a remote apiary with no 4G signal?
+
Yes β that's what it was designed for. The app caches everything on your device when you have a connection. At the apiary with no signal, you can view all your records, log inspections, scan NFC tags, take photos, and do everything except run AI analysis. Everything syncs the moment you're back in range.
Can I use it to manage commercial-scale apiaries?
+
The app is built primarily for hobbyist to semi-commercial beekeepers β up to around 50 hives across multiple sites. It handles multiple apiaries, partner sharing, and NFC equipment tracking well at that scale. For full commercial operations with hundreds of hives requiring yield reporting and regulatory compliance, a more specialised system may suit better.
How do I install it? Do I need to download anything from an app store?
+
No app store needed. Open the app URL in Chrome on Android, tap the three-dot menu, and choose "Add to Home Screen". On desktop, look for the install icon in Chrome's address bar. The app installs in seconds and runs exactly like a native app. Updates happen automatically in the background.
